Modern Hacienda Style in San Diego: California Living with Timeless Character

There is something incredibly inviting about Hacienda-inspired design—especially when it is reimagined for modern California living.

For this San Diego interior design project, I wanted to preserve the warmth and architectural character associated with traditional Hacienda homes while creating a space that feels lighter, more open, and sophisticated.

The dramatic vaulted ceiling and exposed wood beams immediately establish the character of the room. Warm natural finishes, rich cognac leather, textured neutrals, and touches of dark stone create depth without making the space feel heavy.

One of my favorite elements is the connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape. Expansive windows frame the San Diego mountain views, allowing natural light to become part of the design itself. Soft linen drapery keeps the room relaxed and airy while balancing the stronger architectural elements.

The oversized horse artwork adds personality and movement, while organic greenery, sculptural accessories, and carefully selected furnishings bring warmth and refinement to the room.

This is my interpretation of modern Hacienda style: rustic character without heaviness, luxury without formality, and a home that feels connected to the beautiful Southern California landscape.
